Same platform, deliberately different character
Toyota developed the fourth-generation Alphard and Vellfire together, but explicitly separated their roles. Alphard keeps the more classic luxury-saloon brief; Vellfire was given a more assertive design and driving character.
The 40 Series Vellfire has meaningful mechanical differences
Toyota gave the Vellfire an exclusive Z Premier grade, a front performance brace and a 2.4-litre T24A-FTS turbo option. Those are material differences, not just grille and badge changes.
Hybrid does not erase the specification question
Both nameplates have hybrid variants, and Toyota later added six-seat PHEV models in Japan. Compare the exact model code, drive type, grade and build date rather than treating every Alphard or Vellfire as mechanically equivalent.
Australian buyers still need the same evidence
For an imported vehicle, check current ROVER and Model Report scope. For a used vehicle already in Australia, verify identity, history, PPSR, condition, service support and insurance for the exact specification.
